Umbraco 15 arrives — what enterprise and public-sector teams should plan for

Umbraco 15 shipped in June, and it's a meaningful release for anyone running the CMS at enterprise or public-sector scale — a reworked backoffice rendering layer, faster Examine indexing on large content trees, and updated .NET version support.

What's new

• A rebuilt backoffice UI layer with noticeably faster load times on large content trees
• Examine (search) indexing improvements — significant on sites with tens of thousands of nodes
• Support for the latest .NET LTS release, with the previous .NET version now on a deprecation path
• Refined package installer flow, following the path-traversal fix shipped in Umbraco 12/13 last month

Should you upgrade now?

If you're on Umbraco 13 or 14, this is a routine upgrade — plan it, test it in staging, and there's no need to rush. If you're still on Umbraco 10 or earlier, this release is a good prompt to plan a proper upgrade path, since the gap between your version and current keeps widening, and .NET Framework-era Umbraco versions are increasingly out of step with the ecosystem.

Public-sector teams in particular should treat this as routine housekeeping rather than an emergency — but it's worth scheduling rather than letting it drift, since accumulated version debt is what turns a routine upgrade into a painful one two years from now.

We're rolling Umbraco 15 out to managed clients on a staged schedule through August, each with a full staging test pass against their specific packages and custom code before it touches production. No managed client needs to do anything — you'll get a notification when your upgrade is scheduled and confirmed.
